ABOUT

OVERVIEW

Serene Dardari is a Humanitarian Communication specialist and Art Director. She is Anera’s Lebanon Communication Manager and storyteller; Anera is a D.C based nonprofit organization that works with displaced communities in the MENA region. Her bachelor educational background is a combination of International Affairs and Communications Arts. She completed an MA in Conflictology from the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Crisis Management.

Serene has been working with refugee communities, in both Syria and Lebanon, for the past 9 years (Iraqi, Palestinian, and Syrian), specifically with women and girls. In 2015, she founded Chams Network, an initiative-based nonprofit, and implemented a series of community development and peacebuilding projects such as BefriendMe, a safe space for refugee children and women, and the Salam Chams Ramadan Community Kitchen.

She is a certified grant writer and a proposal-writing trainer. Her work in the development field is versatile, ranging from creating result-oriented communication for development strategies to implementing small to medium-scaled humanitarian and relief initiatives. As a communication specialist, Serene has so far experienced working with a diverse list of implementing agencies and donors such as Arche Nova, World Vision, Aflatoun International, Safadi Foundation, multiple UN agencies (namely UNICEF & UNHCR), USAID, and many more.

Serene is a TEDx speaker and a ‘Women Deliver’ fellow. In 2019, she received the “Exceptional Women of Excellence” award in New Delhi India, given by the Women Economic Forum in recognition of her achievements. Serene was the youngest and only Syrian woman speaker at the World Humanitarian Forum in London. She also spoke alongside Major General Kristin Lund, Head of Mission of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO), as a panelist, during the panel discussion at the Lebanese-American University on Advancing the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda in the Arab Region. Moderated by the Executive Director of AiW, Dr. Lina Abirafeh.

Serene hopes to establish a Peace Education academy in Syria one day, to teach Syrian children about Human Rights, Activism, and Peace, things that her beloved country has been robbed of.
